The Purdue Plant Doctor

Purdue Plant Doctor Suite offers a fast, convenient, and inexpensive mobile and web application for diagnosing and managing plant issues, including pests and diseases, for professionals and homeowners.
Technology No. 2013-SADO-66474

Diagnosing plant diseases is often a tedious and costly experience for farmers, gardeners, landscapers, and homeowners. Most often, individuals hire an expert to come and inspect the plants to determine the disease or they spray the trees with pesticides without knowing the underlying problem. These solutions can be costly.

Researchers at Purdue University have developed an app that allows you to identify problems with your plants. The first extension of the Plant Doctor Suite is the Purdue Tree Doctor. The app contains a database of over 1,000 images of hundreds of tree-related issues. The user identifies the tree type and then selects the part of the plant affected. A series of high definition images appear. The user compares the images with their plant's issue. When they find a match, they can select the image for detailed information on how to manage the problem.
