Opinion Marks
"Opinion Marks" technology uses natural language processing to automatically categorize and organize online user reviews, eliminating data clutter and allowing users quick access to specific product feedback.
People frequently write online reviews about everything from products and restaurants to the Supreme Court. As the volume of text reviews continues to grow, it has become more challenging for users to grasp an overall idea of a product from such reviews.
Researchers at Purdue University have developed a new technology called "Opinion Marks" that allows users to leave organized feedback with assistance from algorithms. After users write a review, natural language processing algorithms determine the topic of the feedback and distinguish between negative and positive remarks. Furthermore, the system efficiently organizes the data to allow users quick access to each topic and the type of feedback provided.
Advantages:
-Reviews written by online users are automatically categorized electronically
-Online users can quickly find information about products of interest
-Clutter from abundant reviews found on many websites is eliminated
Potential Applications:
-Shopping reviews
-Restaurant reviews
-Professional service reviews
