FN3503-053 - Apple

This is a seedling designated as FN 3505-354 is the 354th seeding from the Fruiting Nursery of progeny 3505 =GoldRush x Pristine, a cross made by Jules Janick in 1996. Seedlings derived from this cross were planted in the Old Horticulture Farm of Purdue University in 1997 in a closely spaced planting called the Fruiting Nursery. The 254th tree first fruited in 2002 was picked on August 27 and described as a yellow apple with a blush 3" in diameter, and subsequently evaluated in storage on Oct. 30, 2002 and Feb. 18, 2003. On February 18, after more than 5 months of refrigerated storage, researcher notes indicate: "crisp flesh, very good flavor." The apple was propagated by grafting on MM111 rootstock and planted at the Meigs farm on March 21, 2005. It was evaluated again in 2004 (8/19) and described as pale-yellow with red blush, slightly acid, crisp, excellent flavor. It was evaluated again in 2008 (9/10) and 2009 (9/4). This apple is derived from two scab resistant parents and has a 75% chance of having the Vf gene that confers scab resistance. Scab lesions have not be observed on the leaves or fruit.
